The writer grew upon a tobacco farm near Rocky Mount, North Carolina,which appears in On the Road as Testament, Virginia. A Sorbonne graduate, Marion followed the west-ward wanderings of Jack Kerouac with passion and expertise. When visiting her hometown, she often passes the country house where Kerouac lived with his sister, Caroline, during the mid-1950s.
